Midlife Women’s Fear of Change

As us women approach midlife, we often find ourselves facing a multitude of changes. These changes can be both physical and emotional, and they can be both exciting and daunting. For some of us, the fear of change can be overwhelming.

How does the idea of making new changes affect you?

Why Are We Midlife Women Afraid of Change?

There’s always a plethora of reasons we are fearful of making changes…

  • The fear of the unknown. Change involves stepping into the unknown, and this can be scary. We may be afraid of what the future holds, and we may worry about whether we will be able to handle the challenges that come with change.
  • The fear of losing control. Change can often feel like a loss of control. In midlife, we may be afraid of losing control over over lives, our bodies, or our relationships, that we took so long to build.
  • The fear of failure. Change can also involve the risk of failure. Oh boy howdy…this can be really scary. we  may be afraid of failing at something new, or we may be afraid of not being good enough. Ever had that doubt, like imposter syndrome?
  • The fear of being judged. Who is judging us anyway? We may also be afraid of being judged by others for making changes in our lives. We may worry about what others will think of us, or we may be afraid of being seen as failures.

Any of those sound familiar?

My Experience on How to Overcome the Fear of Change

If you are someone who is afraid of change, I believe there are a number of things you can do to overcome your fear.

  • Educate yourself about change. The more you know about change, the less scary it will seem. Read books and articles about change, and talk to people who have successfully navigated change in their own lives.
  • Focus on the positive aspects of change. Change can be positive and exciting. It can offer new opportunities for growth and development. I actually have always embraced change, scary or not, but love the idea of something new and positive.
  • Take small steps. Don’t try to change everything all at once. Start by making small, manageable changes that you are comfortable with. Baby steps, love…
  • Be kind to yourself. Change can be difficult, so be patient with yourself and allow yourself time to adjust. This is the time to dive deep and ask yourself what you are needing to move forward and how to have more self-care time.
  • Seek professional help. If you are struggling to overcome your fear of change, consider seeking professional help from a coach or counselor.

The fear of change is a common experience for many, almost all, women, and men, in midlife, mid career, and even after that midlife experience.

However, it is important to remember that change is a natural part of life, and can be so exciting, bringing you new places, new peoples, new creative adventures.  If you can understand the reasons for your fear and taking steps to overcome it, you can embrace change and move forward with your life.

And live that new dream, those new desires, that you are now wanting. No reason to hold on to the old stories, the past that doesn’t fit anymore. But look at the new you, your new voice, and embrace all that you are!

So you can Dance with your Desires! Move forward with excitement, shine your light.

And remember, I always offer you a complimentary consultation, as your coach, to see what it is you are wanting to step into, and see if coaching with me for the next 3 months is what you are wanting to help you make those moves and create the changes you wish to be and see and breathe! Here I am…put me on your calendar and let’s talk.

In the meantime, have a most blessed and fabulous week, and lovey, make a move toward that new vision!

With love,
