Want to be a part of

the Farmgirrrl Divas

A farmgirl believes in the strong arms of friendship,

community, and the just plain fun of being together.

There’s a ‘farmgirl at heart’ in all of us!

We are:

friends who share ideas, talents, and conversation.

What we do:

sew aprons, laugh, spin yarn, make cheese, knit, eat, drink wine, help each other in the garden or with the animals, laugh, maybe even cry, learn lots, can food, laugh, write, make journals, dance, make music, interested in organic foods and living sustainably, live an artful life, support a fabulous community of women interested in the farmgirrrl way!

Farmgirl is a condition of the heart!

We meet:

Tribal Vision comments! Jan 29, 2009

I so love it when you write to me, and how rewarded I feel when I get a letter like this! It means so much when you take a few seconds and jot down your thoughts. I wanted to share this with you.

“Hi Paulette

I finished the last chapter of Tribal Vision last night. Wow! That book meant so much to me. I absolutely LOVED every section of the book. It has truly changed the way I see the dance. I so needed your words during this time in my life. I have a new love and appreciation for what tribal bellydance adds to my life.

Thanks so much! Your book is AMAZING!!!

-Kara LeBleu
(Zepora)”

Thanks Zepora, wow.

The dance is a very special dance, and it has changed so many lives. I’m delighted my book has touched you in a special way. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

rehearsing Jan 28, 2009

The Caravan has been picking new songs, going over schedules, calendars, rehearsing, and gearing up for many upcoming shows. All of a sudden we are getting busy again with performances. and getting new photos as well.
Here is a clip of the Collective’s show from the benefit performance last weekend–Shimmy, Shake , and Share. the show was to raise money for the local homeless shelter, a good cause and a good reason to dance. thanks to Kristi’s man, Anthony for the camera action! The dancers look lovely and I am again, the proud mama!

Reading, SARK, and Obama! Jan 21, 2009

Reading. What would I do without my books? From mysteries, to nonfiction, to motivational, books on dance and art and writing, I have walls of books. I am loving reading tidbits from SARK (Susan Kennedy).
Succulent Wild Woman: Dancing with your wonder-full self…
Succulent, isn’t that a great word? To be juicy and ripe and full of greatness. To feel like that when you are dancing, or creating, or just living. That is something to strive for.

She states, “Choosing succulence is a deliberate art of personal revolution.”

It’s true; we do choose. Positive, negative, optimist, pessimist.
Someone told me once I was too optimistic. But how can I not be? It is how I live in my world, full of splendor and succulence.

After the inauguration yesterday, I felt such hope and vitality, a change for the world, a change well needed. Optimism…
Obama’s speech was invigorating. A few statements stuck to me, as he talked about our patchwork heritage. Reminds me, too, of our tribal dance, it has a patchwork heritage too! The joining of cultures and communities.
And he talked about the price and promise of citizenship, that we all need to work for what we want to achieve, and work together. Nothing gets handed down to us, as many in our society seem to believe. I love to work for what I want. I am not afraid of work, but just need to incorporate more play! :)

Back to SARK…Have you read her books? They are colorful and playful. Serious but full of life and joy. She talks about power and what it means to her.
“Standing strongly in your women center and living from your heart.”
Are you a powerful woman? Who are your heroes? And your powerful women role models?
Tell me….

Tribal Vision gets reviewed on Bhuz.com Jan 09, 2009

I am so honored, to know that my book has touched someone. That is such a reward for me. Here is a review by Zepora from Bhuz.com. Thank you Zepora!

”I just received the book, Tribal Vision, by Paulette Rees-Denis. I have only yet read the first 3 chapters, but all I can say is, “WOW!”
This is one of the most refreshing books I have read. It touches on many dance related subjects that are close to heart. It gives a nice history of American Tribal Style belly dance as well as Paulette’s own personal history. Tribal Vision also touches on belly dance classes, troupes, and the impact the dance has on women. Several personal insights by various dancers are given, along with beautiful, full-color pictures.
This book is a must read for all belly dancers. It is also a very beautiful book and would just look absolutely gorgeous on any coffee table, but you MUST read it! I especially love the way she talks about the connection belly dance helps women make with themselves and others.
A truly life-changing read”.

An clip from a past show! Jan 08, 2009

Ah, a filmmaker, Charlie Nano,  just sent me an email about this clip of a Gypsy Caravan show, t at the Fez Ballroom from a few years back! So fun to reminisce, and I especially love the view through the ghawazeeing hips! The song is T’yem—one of my favorites, from the Quest CD. Tom Cooper from Domba is sitting in as a guest musician with Jeff, Bruce, Hans, and Jared. Then Carol and Cammi play the big Italian tambourines on Allesandra, while Dulcinea, Michele, and Karen dance. Did you see Dulcinea’s eyebrow raise?
